Extreme Sea Level Estimation Combining Systematic Observed Skew Surges and Historical Record Sea Levels

چکیده

The estimation of sea levels corresponding to high return periods is crucial for coastal planning and the design defenses. This paper deals with use historical observations, that is, events occurred before beginning systematic tide gauge recordings, improve levels. Most recent publications dealing statistical analyses applied suggest astronomical skew surges should be analyzed modeled separately. Historical samples generally consist observed record Some extreme can easily remain unnoticed if they occur at low or moderate tides do not generate exhaustiveness surge series, which an essential criterion unbiased inference, therefore guaranteed. study proposes a model combining, in single Bayesian inference procedure, information two different natures calibration distribution surges: measured period period. A data-based comparison proposed previously published approaches presented based on large number Monte Carlo simulations. four locations French Atlantic Channel coasts. Results indicate more reliable accurate than methods aim integration records level analyses.

Corrigendum: A global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels

Extreme sea levels, caused by storm surges and high tides, can have devastating societal impacts. To effectively protect our coasts, global information on coastal flooding is needed. Here we present the first global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels (GTSR data set) based on hydrodynamic modelling. GTSR covers the entire world's coastline and consists of time series of tides and ...

Global Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Level Rise Estimation with Optimal Historical Time Lag Data

Prediction of global temperatures and sea level rise (SLR) is important for sustainable development planning of coastal regions of the world and the health and safety of communities living in these regions. In this study, climate change effects on sea level rise is investigated using a dynamic system model (DSM) with time lag on historical input data. A time-invariant (TI-DSM) and time-variant ...

Changes in extreme sea-levels in the Baltic Sea

In a climate change context, changes in extreme sea-levels rather than changes in the mean are of particular interest from the coastal protection point of view. In this work, extreme sea-levels in the Baltic Sea are investigated based on daily tide gauge records for the period 1916 2005 using the annual block maxima approach. Extreme events are analysed based on the generalised extreme value di...

A comparison of two global datasets of extreme sea levels and resulting flood exposure: Comparison of global extreme sea levels

Estimating the current risk of coastal flooding requires adequate information on extreme sea levels. For over a decade, the only global data available was the DINAS-COAST Extreme Sea Levels (DCESL) dataset, which applies a static approximation to estimate extreme sea levels. Recently, a dynamically derived dataset was developed: the Global Tide and Surge Reanalysis (GTSR) dataset. Here, we comp...

The coral record of last interglacial sea levels and sea surface temperatures

Ž . Ž . The rise and fall of the Last Interglacial LI sea levels and sea surface temperatures SSTs are evaluated using U-series dating combined with SrrCa ratios in corals from both stable and tectonically uplifted sites. Along the stable coastal margin of Western Australia, an extensive series of LI coral reefs occur at heights of 2–3 m above present-day sea level. These corals have a very tig...
